Divorce 516 Chapter 516
Teresa didnโt know where Sanford got the news. Seeing her confused look, he explained, โJennifer told me. Iโm also a witness, so of course I had to come.โ
Teresaโs phone rang. Without another word, she stepped out to meet someone.
Sanford didnโt chase after Teresa. Instead, he eagerly walked over to Jonathan and fished some cash out of his pocket. โMr. Lynn, thanks for lending me some money for the tire repair. Here you go.โ
โNo need.โ Jonathan gave Sanford a polite nod. โIt was nothing.โ
Sanford tutted in mock admiration and plopped down next to Jonathan. โMr. Lynn, weโre not that close, yet youโre so nice to me. Iโm genuinely moved.โ
Jonathan glanced at Sanford coolly but didnโt bother responding.
Sanford said with a smirk, โTeresa and I are getting married soon. You really should stop harassing her.โ
Jonathan was clearly intrigued by Sanfordโs words. He sneered and said, โShe doesnโt even like you. Do you really think you can marry her? Maybe youโre just daydreaming.โ
Sanford suddenly chuckled. โDo you know Teresa well? Well, I think I know her better than you do.โ
Jonathan finally met Sanfordโs gaze directly, his eyes sharpening with scrutiny. โMr. Thomas, do you have a problem with me? I donโt remember I did anything to you.โ
Sanford fell silent. After a while, he smirked and said, โI hate the Lynn family, and youโre one of them.โ
Jonathan said, โUsing the people around someone to get back at them, huh? Thatโs pretty childish.โ
Sanford laughed and said, โDo you think Iโm deliberately getting close to Teresa just to get back at you? What if I truly want to marry her?โ
Jonathanโs face suddenly darkened.
Sanford said with a knowing look, โFeelings grow over time. I donโt have the bond you have with Teresa, but as long as we spend more time together, Iโm sure sheโll like me.โ
The more Sanford talked, the angrier he got. โIf only I-โ He paused and softened his tone a bit. โI just never had a chance. Iโm no worse than you, and whatever you have now, it will be mine eventually.โ
Jonathanโs gaze sharpened with suspicion.
Teresa brought Jennifer in, who took a seat beside her. The moment Jennifer spotted Jonathan in the front row, she sneered. โSo, you didnโt go back to Nareigh that day because you went to see your exโhusband, right?โ
Teresa shot back, โStop lecturing me. Why is Sanford here? Did you tell him the date of the trial?โ
Jennifer said, โYeah. I was talking to Donald about this and Sanford happened to hear it.โ
Teresa was speechless. She wasnโt interested in fighting with Jennifer right now. What mattered was how the court would rule on Charlie.
After all that waiting, they finally got to see that jerk face face justice. He had stolen Evelynโs money, committed financial fraud, and even hit someone and ran. The lawyer said he would probably be sentenced to twenty years.
However, Charlieโs lawyer, Hugh Keaton, turned out to be one of those star attorneys with a crazy high win rate. And when he pulled out a prenuptial agreement, Evelyn just froze in shock.
It was the prenuptial agreement she had signed before marrying Charlie. Back then, she was head over heels in love, convinced he was the right one for her. Evelyn blindly signed that, giving Charlie full authority to handle her assets, redistribute them, and even make decisions for her company.
Hugh said, โYour Honor, this is a legal document showing Mr. Wilsonโs exโwife voluntarily transferred personal assets to him. The funds he took were legitimate dividends, not stolen or coerced.โ
Evelyn suddenly sprang to her feet, jabbing an accusing finger at Charlie as she launched into her accusations. โI was drunk at that time. He tricked me into signing it when I wasnโt even conscious. That canโt be legal.โ
Hugh said, โDo you have any witnesses who can confirm your intoxicated state at the time?โ
Evelyn was dumbfounded once again because the lawyer who notarized the prenuptial agreement back then was from Charlieโs side. It had been a complete setup from the start, and by the time Evelyn realized it, she was already broke.
Seeing she couldnโt win on legal grounds, Evelyn turned her anger toward Hugh. โDonโt you have a conscience? Are you standing up for this jerk who walked out on his wife and kid? He took all my money and left me with a baby barely three years old, wandering around like we were homeless. She cried for her dad every single day. Charlie, didnโt you say you failed Isabel? Say that again.โ
Charlie sighed with feigned remorse and said, โYour Honor, I know I should have been there for my child. If the court allows, Iโd like to try everything to raise my daughter properly. Iโll never leave her again.โ
Evelynโs anger grew. โIsabel is my child. How dare you try to take her from me? Youโre a monster.โ
Evelynโs emotions were running high, and the judge had to call the courtroom to order before she finally sat down.
Just then, Jennifer leaned forward with a knowing look and muttered under her breath, โSee? Men are always selfish and cruel. He doesnโt care how ugly things get with his ex in court. All he wants is to take the kid so he can look better and get off easier.โ
Teresa knew full well that Jenniferโs words were aimed right at her. However, she didnโt respond. Honestly, she didnโt even have the headspace to argue. Her case wasnโt the same as Evelynโs anyway.
Soon, the attorney Teresa hired began presenting the facts she had collected, including Charlieโs marital infidelity, his visits to sex workers, and the misuse of marital assets on his mistress.
Those funds, the attorney argued, should be recovered. After all, the prenuptial agreement was based on the expectation of mutual fidelity, and once that trust was broken, the contract could no longer stand.
The attorney said, โThese are the documents showing Charlieโs infidelity and the assets he transferred to his mistress, including a house he bought for her.โ
All the evidence was clearly laid out. As for the hitโandโrun, Teresa and Sanford both testified that they saw it happen and were the ones who got the injured woman to the hospital.
The attorney said, โSince the incident, Mr. Wilson has not visited the victim once. That speaks volumes about his lack of remorse.โ
Hearing that, Hugh looked at him with obvious frustration. He said, โMr. Wilson was taken into custody immediately after the incident. He hasnโt had the chance to visit the victim.โ
โYour Honor, we have video footage of Mr. Wilson being arrested,โ said the attorney. Another piece of evidence was submitted.
The screen showed Charlie getting arrested at a highway exit. As he was getting into the police car, he muttered, โJust hit some old fart. What a damn unlucky day.โ
Upon hearing this, the judge squinted slightly.
Realizing the tide was turning against him, Charlie suddenly pointed at Teresa and said, โShe was chasing me in her car. I only hit someone because I was trying to get away. Itโs all her fault.โ
Everyone in the courtroom turned to stare at Teresa.
Jonathan frowned slightly and glanced down at his watch.
