Chapter 501

Kia Kisreich Belly Kancun, the old lady's adopted daughter, had just returned from her business trip. She didn't believe for a second that Trong and N were really her mother's daughters. "My mom is Fiona," she declared. "Here's a photo of her when she was youngโ€”we look exactly alike. How could this be fake?"

Heidi said, "We're transferring her to another hospital to get the best treatment." Petty agreed to the transfer, but only if they paid her a transfer fee of $300,000.

Tren scoffed, "You're her adopted daughter. Why should we give you any money? After the accident, we didn't even blame you for not taking good care of Mom. You should be grateful for that."

"Why are you blaming me? Isn't your son the CEO of Horizonlead Group?" Betty shot back. "My mom ended up like this because of his girlfriend. Your son should take responsibility."

'Girlfriend?' Irene was completely confused. 'When did Jonathan get a girlfriend?'

Betty added, "Last time, he came with a pretty woman named Teresa. They even left together."

Irene's face instantly darkened. Heidi noticed Irene's expression and tugged at her arm. "Irene, what's going on? Why are you bringing up Jonathan's ex-wife again?"

"Ugh, his ex-wife is nothing but trouble. I'm going to deal with her," Irene fumed, turning to leave.

Teresa was with Evelyn, and they'd already found a lawyerโ€”planning to get Charlie at least twenty years behind bars. Just then, Irene called Teresa, saying she wanted to meet at the hospital immediately.

Teresa frowned and said to Evelyn, "I'm heading out for a bit."

"Where are you going? Who just called? Was that Jonathan's mom? I thought I heard her voice," Evelyn asked, worried.

Teresa didn't deny it. "She wants to meet me at the hospital."

"Which hospital? The one where Jennifer works? Let me go with youโ€”"

"No need, I'll go myself," Teresa replied.

Still uneasy, Evelyn waited until Teresa went downstairs, then pulled out her phone and made a call.

Teresa had already reached the hospital, taking the road that ran close to the Lynn residence. She didn't see Jonathan's car and just kept driving.

When Teresa arrived at the hospital, both Irene and Heidi were there. Teresa gave them a slight nod, treating it as a greeting and nothing more.

Irene didn't even look at Teresa, just stared coldly at the old lady lying in the hospital bed. Her voice was sharp as a knife. "I heard my mother ended up like this because of you."

Teresa replied, "Your son told me himselfโ€”she's not his real grandmother."

Irene said, "Oh, so she's not his grandmother? Then who is she? That's a good one. I'm his mother, but he doesn't talk to me. He talks to you? How many times have I told you to leave him alone?"

"He's almost thirty-one. He's not getting any younger. Are you planning to cling to him until he's fifty or sixty? I've seen shameless women before, but you really take the cake."

Irene pointed at Teresa, her voice toward furious. "You're not leaving until you explain yourself properly today."

Teresa turned back, her face expressionless. "I've already explained everything. What else do you want to know?"

Irene marched right up to Teresa, glaring at her small face and jabbing a finger at her. "You wretch! Look at that coquettish face!"

Teresa curled her lips into a mocking smile. "Thanks for the compliment. You're still looking good yourself, Cathy. Ever thought about finding a handsome old man to keep you company?"

"What did you just say?" Irene was so furious that she could barely get the words out. But before she could finish, footsteps echoed in the hallway. Jennifer strode in, with Donald right behind her. Jennifer had rushed over after getting a call from Evelyn. She stepped in front of Teresa, blocking her. "What are you trying to do to Teresa?"

"What am I doing? Maybe you should ask what she did to my mother!"

Jennifer glanced at the old woman in the bed, noticing the resemblance to Genevieve. "It was Evelyn's ex-husband who caused the accident. Teresa had nothing to do with it. Don't take it out on her. Teresa, let's go."

Jennifer reached for Teresa's wrist, but Irene snapped, "No one's leaving until she explains."

Jennifer shot Irene a look of utter disbelief. "What do you want, you old hag? Teresa isn't your daughter-in-law anymore. You don't get to push her around."

Irene pointed at Donald. "Listen to your wonderful wife. She just called me an old hag. No manners at all."

Donald sighed and put an arm around Jennifer's waist. "Jennifer, let's just go. We can talk about this later at home."

Jennifer shrugged off his arm. "Why are you always so silent? Do you know why your parents never stand up to Irene? Because you've all let her walk all over you."

Donald's face darkened instantly, anger flashing in his eyes.

"Let's go," Teresa said softly, as Jennifer didn't seem to notice his anger. Teresa hadn't expected Jennifer to come and didn't want her here.

A laugh burst out from behind, and Heidi jumped. Irene could be seriously unsettling sometimes. She turned around and asked, "What's so funny?"

Irene quickly covered her mouth, stifling her laughter and shaking her head. "Just look at Donald's wife, acting all tough with me."

"What does she have to brag about? The wedding, the drinks, and even the hotelโ€”my son paid for it all. People really do end up with their own kind."

Jennifer couldn't take it anymore and sneered, "You're right, people really do end up with their own kind. With a mother like you, no wonder your son turned out so cold and heartless."

"He kicked Teresa out with nothing. Now that he's rolling in money, what's wrong with giving her a little compensation for all the pain?"

"Jennifer." Teresa tried to pull her away, her voice low and tense, not wanting Jennifer to lose it. "Let's just go."

"Teresa, I'll tell them what you never say." Jennifer shook off Teresa's hand and stared straight at the furious Irene.

"You witch. You're cruel enough to hurt Teresa. Jonathan divorced her and left her with nothingโ€”she walked away with not a cent. And she evenโ€”" Jennifer paused and then switched gears. "When they got married, our family was way better off than yours. After the divorce, he struck it rich, but Teresa was left with nothing and wasted years of her life. So who's really shameless here? Everyone can see the truth."
