Chapter 499
โI believe you.โ A deep voice suddenly came from behind. Gordon turned to see Jonathan, who helped him up, repeating, โI believe you.โ
Gordon pouted, looking wronged, and grumbled, โNo, sheโs not Fiona.โ
Jonathan nodded. โYeah, I know.โ
Seeing Jonathanโs genuine belief, Gordon clung tightly to the only hand that trusted him. โYou said youโd take me to find Fiona. Where is she?โ
Jonathan replied, โSheโs playing hide-and-seek with you. Iโll take you to find her soon, okay?โ
Gordon nodded and turned to Irene and Heidi. โDid you hear that? He said itโs not Fiona.โ
Irene and Heidi complied, โAlright, alright, itโs not Fiona. We believe you.โ
They coaxed Gordon into the car. Heidi wanted to take him to her place, but Gordon only trusted Jonathan; he wouldnโt go with anyone else.
Jonathan said, โIโll take Grandpa to my place and get some caregivers to look after him.โ
Heidi agreed, โAlright.โ
After sending Gordon to Jonathanโs estate, Irene said, โDonโt take what your grandpa says to heart. He has dementia and just talks nonsense sometimes.โ
Heidi added, โDadโs mind is all over the place. We already found her for him, but he still wonโt believe it. Heโs really making things tough for us.โ
Jonathan was silent for a few seconds. โBut what if she really isnโt my grandma?โ
Heidi laughed, โHow could the photos be fake? She looks just like her, and her name is Fiona. She has to be your grandma.โ
Irene nodded, patting Jonathanโs shoulder. โYouโve worked hard finding her. Leave the rest to us. Heidi and I will take care of everything on her side.โ
Jonathan pressed his lips together and said nothing more.
Gordon stayed at Jonathanโs villa, where Jonathan arranged for two top-notch caregivers. Gordon lay in the big bed, awake, repeatedly asking Jonathan, โYouโll find Fiona for me, wonโt you?โ
โI will.โ
โIโฆ trustโฆ youโฆโ Gordon slowly closed his eyes.
The night deepened, but Jonathan remained awake. Heโd already sent Ireneโs toothbrush and the old ladyโs persona samples for DNA testing. His phone buzzed. โMr. Lynn, the expedited DNA results you requested are in. Iโll bring them right over.โ
โAlright,โ he said, hanging up.
His assistant arrived shortly with the report. Jonathan opened it, going straight to the last page. His frown softened into a slight smile as he read the results. Then, without hesitation, he got into his car and drove off.
Back at Rosary Estates, Teresa kept glancing at her phone. Sheโd left the hospital as soon as Irene and Heidi arrivedโshe really didnโt want to run into Irene. Jonathan had promised to let her know immediately upon confirming the old ladyโs identity as his grandmother, but he hadnโt contacted her yet.
โMom, why arenโt you asleep yet?โ Michael, in his short-sleeved pajamas, rubbed his eyes and watched Teresa pace.
Teresa gently touched his head. โDid I wake you, sweetheart? Go back to bed. Iโm just thinking.โ
โMomโฆ if somethingโs wrong, you can tell me,โ Michael mumbled, yawning, his eyes half-closed.
Teresa smiled and reassured him. Then she soothed him back to sleep, patting his little belly and softly humming a lullaby.
Just as Teresa settled him, her phone vibrated. She tiptoed out, quietly closing the bedroom door.
It was already eleven-thirty at night. She wasnโt asleep, and neither was he. On the other end, Jonathan sounded a little out of breath. โCome downstairs. I need to talk to you.โ
Teresa pulled back the living room curtains and saw the familiar Maybach parked outside. โOkay,โ she replied.
She wore a camisole dress with a loose, long shirt thrown over it. Only when she stepped outside did she realize sheโd rushed out in her slippers, too anxious about the results to care. She knew Jonathan was here to discuss his grandmother.
She asked, โHowโs the old lady doing? Did you get the results? Is it really your grandma?โ
Jonathan nodded. โSheโs fine, totally lucid. Grandpa checkedโshe is my real grandma.โ
Teresaโs eyes flickered with relief and anxiety. Her chest tightening, she asked, โAnd then? What did your grandma say? What about your momโdoes she know it was Charlie who hit your grandma?โ
Jonathan kept his gaze on Teresa, a teasing glint in his eyes. โMy grandma said she hopes youโll marry me again. And if you do, sheโll let you off the hook.โ
Teresa froze, looking up at his deep, unreadable eyes. โWhy would I have to marry you? Did you tell your grandma something? Why else would she want that? What about your mom? Does your whole family think this way?โ
Jonathan clenched his fist and laughed.
Teresa looked at him, confused.
โIโm just messing with you.โ Jonathan pulled out the DNA test report. โI ran a test with my momโs DNA and the old ladyโs. Hereโs the result.โ
Teresa took the report, saw Irene and Fionaโs names, and quickly flipped to the last page: [There is a familial relationship, but the results arenโt enough to confirm theyโre mother and daughter.]
Teresa looked up at Jonathan.
โSheโs not my grandma. Iโm guessing sheโs probably my grandmaโs sister. My real grandma should be Ms. Nelsonโthe one who raised your sister.โ
As soon as he finished, Teresa kicked him in the leg. โYou totally had that coming for messing with me.โ
Jonathan sucked in a breath. โTry heels when you want to do this again. That really hurts.โ
Teresa glared at him.
Jonathan smiled gently, his eyes saying, โIโm here, so whatโs there to worry about?โ He said softly, โI came straight to you because I didnโt want you stressing out.โ And then he left, telling her to get some sleep.
Jonathan barely got any sleep that night. Gordon suddenly started coughing up blood, so he rushed home and called Irene.

Chapter 499
Irene hurried over, unsure of Gordonโs health problems beyond Alzheimerโs. Gordon was stubbornโhe hated hospitals and refused checkups. She only knew he had high blood pressure.
Irene asked, โCould this just be a complication from advanced Alzheimerโs? Maybe itโs not that serious?โ
โWeโll only know after the checkup,โ Jonathan replied.
The doctors they called shook their heads, their faces grim. Things didnโt look good. They insisted Gordon needed a full examination at the hospital, but he refused to go.
Jonathan said sharply, โIf you donโt cooperate, I wonโt take you to Fiona.โ
Gordon immediately grabbed Jonathanโs hand. โNo, donโt do that,โ he pleaded. โIโll do whatever you say.โ
Jonathan lowered his gaze, looking at the frail, trembling hand, the veins clearly visible. He gently took Gordonโs hand. โTrust me,โ he said.
