Chapter 487
Teresa hummed softly. Yesterday, after Jennifer left, Donald had actually called her. Heโd booked a five-star hotel and told Teresa, โJenniferโs going from the hotel to the wedding.โ
โOkay,โ Teresa replied calmly. She hadnโt planned to lend Jennifer the house and have the groom pick her up there.
โTeresa, one more thing. At the wedding, could you sing a song for Jennifer? She really loves an old song called โAt Least I Still Have You.โ If you sing it for her, sheโd be really happy,โ Donald begged on the phone.
Teresaโs mind returned to the present, and she looked at Jennifer in her white wedding dress. Jennifer looked back. Their fight and arguments from yesterday, plus Teresaโs sharp words, were still fresh in her mind. Jennifer hadnโt slept all night. She thought Teresa wouldnโt show up. But surprisingly, Teresa did. A hint of emotion and relief flickered in Jenniferโs eyes.
Teresaโs phone rang. Evelyn said, โIโm with Isabel and canโt come over. Isabel and I are heading straight to the hotel for the meal. You stay and keep your sister company, okay?โ
โOh,โ Teresa answered coldly.
โThe weddingโs a big deal with so many eyes on us. No matter what, we canโt let people make fun of us. You get what I mean, right, Teresa?โ Evelyn said.
Teresa remained cold. โIโm not a kid. Donโt worry about me.โ
After she hung up, another bridesmaid arrived shortly after. โJennifer, Iโm late. Traffic was bad,โ said the newcomer, Rebecca, Jenniferโs senior from Everport. Rebecca had taken a day off from the hospital just to be Jenniferโs bridesmaid.
After greeting Teresa, Rebecca pulled her into a private room. Rebecca examined Teresaโs attireโa loose beige blouse and a light pink, ankle-length tulle skirt. Teresa rarely wore skirts that long; before pregnancy, she usually wore pleated or pencil skirts.
โYour bellyโs not obvious yet,โ Rebecca said.
โPosterior wall pregnancy,โ Teresa replied.
Rebecca sighed. โYour sister told me the babyโs dadโs a jerk.โ
โShe isโฆโ Teresa was speechless. Thinking of Evelynโs words, she took a deep breath. โRebecca, can we not talk about my baby?โ
โAlright, fine. Youโre going through a lot alone. You should find a good guy and get married again soon,โ Rebecca said.
Teresa said nothing more. Rebecca didnโt push and went to find Jennifer.
Miriam, in a gossipy tone, asked Teresa, โYou know this bridesmaid?โ
โWe knew each other back in Everport,โ Teresa said, touching Miriamโs dress. โThat purple really suits you.โ
Miriam smiled. โItโs okay, but itโs not as nice as that starry blue dress I wore when I was your bridesmaid.โ
Teresa remained quiet. The past was gone. Nothing was left to say.
Miriam leaned in close and whispered, โHey, what about Michael? Whoโs watching him today?โ
โSherry got back to me. I told her to take Michael to the hotel to grab some food,โ Teresa said.
Miriam was surprised. โWow, youโre really bold letting Michael go to your sisterโs wedding.โ
Teresa shrugged. โThere were over thirty tables of guests. Itโs fine. He really wanted to go, so I told Sherry to have Michael sit on the side.โ
Miriam nodded.
Around ten, the groomโs convoy arrived at the hotel, creating quite a scene. The hotel entrance buzzed with activity. Donald, in a black suit, arrived with the groomsmen to pick up the bride. The bridesmaids began causing a bit of a ruckus. One bridesmaid, noticing Edwardโs good looks, asked him to take off his shirt and do one-handed push-ups.
Miriam protested, โNo way. Let the groom do that, not the groomsmen.โ
Everyone was surprised. Edward said, โI have a girlfriend. No way.โ He winked at Miriam.
Then they focused their attention on Donald. He took off his jacket, kept his shirt on, and began doing push-ups. The bridesmaids counted twenty before stopping him, not wanting the groom to get too tired to carry the bride later.
Teresa heard the commotion outside but remained inside the room. Jennifer finally said, โTeresa, can you grab the bracelet on my table for me?โ
Teresa looked at the turquoise bracelet. Jennifer explained it was a gift from Genevieve.
Teresa asked, โIsnโt Genevieve coming to your wedding?โ
Jennifer said, โShe didnโt want to come. When I visited her, she gave me this bracelet. If you like it, itโs yours.โ
Teresa said, โI donโt want it.โ
Jennifer put it on herself, looking at Teresa with mixed feelings. โAnyway, thanks for coming.โ
Teresa didnโt answer and turned away. Outside, the wedding party finally overcame the bridesmaidsโ challenges and came inside. Donald held a bouquet and saw Jennifer sitting on the bed, wearing her wedding dress and perfect makeup. He couldnโt look away.
โHoney,โ he said, walking over quickly and half-kneeling before her, visibly moved. โYou look amazing today.โ
Jennifer smiled softly. A groomsman joked, โDonaldโs lucky to marry the hospitalโs beauty.โ He glanced at Teresa standing by the curtains, looking stunning.
Donald laughed and told the groomsmen, โNobodyโs allowed to look at my wife. Sheโs mine. Hands off.โ
They all respected that and turned away. Donald kissed Jenniferโs cheek, carefully helped her put on her wedding shoes, then carried her off the bed. They proudly took the bride to the wedding car. Fireworks went off on both sides. Everyone got into their cars.
The main car was a Rolls-Royce. It was Jenniferโs first time riding in one. Donald held her hand the entire time. It felt like theyโd just met yesterday, everything still fresh in their minds. And now she was his wife.
The car headed to Donaldโs place. Teresa didnโt go. Like Jonathan, she wanted to avoid suspicion. She figured Jonathan would be there, so she stayed away.
She planned to walk slowly to the hotel where dinner was. The weather was pleasant, not too hot or dry. Teresa felt a cool breeze and looked up. She saw someone she knew very well. Teresa froze. Jonathan hadnโt expected to see her either. Their eyes met.
Teresa was the first to speak. โWhat a coincidence. I thought youโd be at Donaldโs.โ
Jonathan paused for two seconds, raised his eyebrows, and said, โRare. We actually think alike.โ
