Listen to this chapter:

Jonathan glanced at Teresa and smirked. โ€œLetโ€™s not talk about my ex-wife, or my girlfriend here might get jealous.โ€

Steve looked at Teresa and said, โ€œMs. Johnston, I was just kidding. No need to be jealous of someone from the past. Every guy has a few old flames, light. Weโ€™ll catch up on business another time, leave you two alone.โ€

Teresaโ€™s smile was purely for show. As soon as Steve left, she could contain herself no longer. โ€œJonathan, whatโ€™s that supposed to mean? Your ex-wife was blind to divorce you?โ€

Jonathan flipped open a magazine and shot her a look. โ€œThen how was I supposed to explain it? If I said you were my ex-wife, what kind of reaction do you think heโ€™d have?โ€

Teresa was momentarily speechless, but she insisted, โ€œYou didnโ€™t have to say I was your girlfriend. You couldโ€™ve just said I was your sister. Heโ€™d believe it.โ€

โ€œOneโ€™s last name is Lynn, the otherโ€™s Johnston. How would that make you my sister?โ€ Jonathan said.

โ€œCousin, then.โ€ Teresa huffed and stormed out.

Jonathan was getting ready to leave the hospital. The doctor wanted him to stay for another two days for observation, but heโ€™d only been there a day.

โ€œIโ€™m fine. Iโ€™ve had gastroenteritis before, and that time was way worse,โ€ Jonathan said. โ€œLast time, it was because I drank too much and ate some spoiled ravioli.โ€

At that, Teresa jabbed him hard with her elbow. Teresa thought, Seriously, can he ever just stop talking?

The doctor glanced at Teresa while jotting down notes. โ€œWell, if your husband insists on leaving, you can go ahead and handle his discharge paperwork.โ€

Teresa couldnโ€™t be bothered to explain her relationship with Jonathan. There was no need to give people more reason to gossip. โ€œDoctor, youโ€™re sure he is really okay?โ€

โ€œFor now, he seems fine. But you need to keep a close eye on your husband. No drinking for a while, especially not on an empty stomach, or he could end up with a stomach bleed,โ€ said the doctor.

Teresa nodded. โ€œGot it, thanks, doctor.โ€

After getting discharged, Jonathan was in high spirits. He had the driver bring his car over and then drove himself.

โ€œIโ€™ll treat you to dinner, Western food, something fancy, or thereโ€™s a great place near where Iโ€™m staying. Want to try it?โ€

Teresa was quiet for a few seconds. โ€œLet me treat you,โ€ she said. She added, โ€œHonestly, I only got another shot at business with Mr. Frazier because of you. So this meal should be on me.โ€

Jonathan stared at her for a few seconds, his gaze unreadable. โ€œSo after this dinner, youโ€™re just going to go your own way again, huh?โ€

โ€œWhat else? Iโ€™m just here on a business trip, and frankly, if it werenโ€™t for work, we wouldnโ€™t have even run into each other.โ€ Teresa opened the car door for her. โ€œGet in,โ€ he said.

At the restaurant, Teresa handed Jonathan the menu. He ordered dishes he knew she loved while avoiding anything spicy or seafood for himself. After all, heโ€™d just gotten out of the hospital.

Teresa absentmindedly picked at her food while Jonathan quietly put more on her plate.

โ€œBy the way, whatโ€™s Jenniferโ€™s friendโ€™s name?โ€ Jonathan asked.

โ€œYou wouldnโ€™t know him even if I told you,โ€ Teresa replied, then shot back, โ€œSo, after your marriage, didnโ€™t you meet anyone?โ€

โ€œMy mom tried setting me up with some women who studied overseas, but I didnโ€™t bother meeting them,โ€ Jonathan said.

โ€œMaybe you should give it a try,โ€ Teresa suggested.

She thought, Donโ€™t they both agree to start over? Everyone knows the best way to get over someone is to start something new.

โ€œCanโ€™t you even eat without talking?โ€ Jonathan clearly didnโ€™t want to keep discussing whether heโ€™d find someone new. Just then, Teresaโ€™s phone rang. She glanced at the caller ID. It was from Sanford. She said, โ€œIโ€™m going to the restroom.โ€
