Chapter 356
โJonathan? Hey, Jonathan Lynn!โ She called his name twice, but he didnโt respond, just kept frowning. Teresa reached out and touched his foreheadโhe was burning up.
Teresa hurriedly rummaged through drawers and cabinets, searching for a thermometer. The noise woke Jonathan. He squinted at her, catching her silhouette in the golden dusk.
His voice was hoarse, like he was still half-asleep. โWhy are you here? Didnโt you already go home?โ
โYouโve got a fever. How high is it? Did you take any medicine?โ Teresa asked, her voice full of concern.
โI donโt know,โ Jonathan mumbled, pulling his blanket tighter around himself. His voice was even weaker. โCan you get me another blanket?โ
The only spare was in Michaelโs old room, but Teresa had packed all the blankets away before she left. She pulled out a blanket with little muffins on it and gently covered Jonathan.
โIโm going out to get you some fever meds. Next time, at least close the door when you come in,โ Teresa said, a bit exasperated.
Jonathan didnโt answer. He just kept frowning, his face still flushed. Teresa could tell he wasnโt really all there.
Teresa left to buy him some fever medicine. Since sheโd smelled alcohol when she came in, she avoided antibiotics and picked up something safer instead.
After getting home, Teresa switched on the water dispenser and made some pumpkin gruel for him. Once the water was hot, she mixed up some fever medicine.
She reminded him, โIโm leaving your medicine here. Thereโs gruel in the pot. If youโre hungry, get up and have some, okay?โ
The man on the bed didnโt respond. Teresa quietly walked over to the bedside, pulled open the last drawer, and sure enough, there was the ring box. Just as she thought, it was here.
She was just about to take out the ring when Jonathan rolled over. Teresa quickly shut the drawer.
Jonathan opened his bloodshot, deep eyes. Teresa stood up. โI left your fever medicine here. Donโt forget to take it. Thereโs some gruel in the pot. Try to eat a little, too.โ
โWhy are you here?โ Jonathan asked again, his gaze still unfocused.
Teresa said, โI came to place an order for some supplies. Just passing through, so I thought Iโd drop by.โ
Jonathan didnโt question her further. He pushed himself up with both hands, and Teresa brought the medicine over. โDrink it while itโs hot. Look at you, your face is burning up,โ she said.
Jonathan glanced at Teresa, his Adamโs apple bobbing. โFeed me. I donโt have the strength.โ
Teresa paused. Sheโd promised herself sheโd start over in Nareigh, but this wasnโt Nareigh. She hesitated, then sat down beside him and fed him the medicine, one spoonful at a time.
After she finished feeding him the medicine, Jonathan suddenly reached out and cupped Teresaโs cheek. Before she could even set the bowl down, he leaned in and kissed her.
The bowl slipped from her hand and hit the carpet with a dull thudโthankfully, it didnโt break. The world spun, and in the next second, she was pinned beneath him.
โIโm burning up,โ he muttered, his fingers already fumbling impatiently with her buttons. The heat radiating from his chest was something Teresa had never experienced before.
Her attempts to push him away grew weaker and weaker. Suddenly, her phone started ringing urgently. Flustered, she fumbled for it. โHello?โ
โMs. Johnston, are you coming to the airport? The planeโs about to take off,โ urged a team member.
Teresa struggled to reply, โIโll come tomorrowโฆโ
The team member wondered, โMs. Johnston, are you alright? Your voice sounds a little hoarse.โ
โIโm fi-โ Before Teresa could finish, the man on top of her couldnโt hold back any longer. He grabbed her phone, said, โSheโs with Mr. Lynn,โ and hung up.
