Chapter 351
Teresa handed the keys to Jadeleaf Apartment to the agent. She only needed to handle the online sale; the rest of the paperwork was left to them. She had a few potted plants at home that she couldn't bear to leave behind. She hadn't lived there long, but she still felt a bit attached.
At the airport, Teresa saw Jennifer calling. She declined. Jennifer then sent a message: "Just asking, what time is your flight? Why aren't you picking up? Is something wrong?"
Teresa replied: "I'm already at the airport. From now on, my life has nothing to do with you, Hannah. If you keep bothering me, don't blame me for being harsh."
She immediately blocked Jennifer's number. To her surprise, Jennifer messaged againโthis time using Donald's phone.
Jennifer: "So you blocked me, huh? Trying to drive me crazy? Fine, it's good you're back. I promise I won't interfere anymore, but you have to promise meโdon't get tangled up with your ex again. And if Irene comes looking for you, let me know. Our family isn't so easy to push around."
โFamily? What family do I even have? Forget it,โ Teresa thought. She saw through it all. Sheโd rather live well on her own than rely on a family that only ever brought her pain.
People said that if a woman was bullied by her in-laws, it was because she lacked strong family support. Maybe that was true, but Teresa didn't care anymore. Besides, if Jennifer really married Donald, then Irene would be her aunt-in-law. If Jennifer wanted a peaceful life, she'd better not go up against Irene.
Teresa blocked Donald's number too. From now on, she would focus on living her own life. Her flight was about to board, so she headed for security, not noticing the tall figure standing on the second floor, quietly watching her.
Jonathan watched her pass through security with her suitcase, not looking away until she was completely out of sight. He called a subordinate, looking for an apartment; he wanted Teresa's place. "There are school district apartments better than Jadeleaf Apartment. Go check them out when you have time."
The subordinate blurted, "Mr. Lynn, you're so busy, and if you want the apartment, how could I possibly compete?"
"I just saw the listing on the company website and thought it was a colleague's. I didn't know you had the secretarial department put it up. I reallyโ"
"Enough. I get it," Jonathan said. He hung up and took a short nap in the car.
Heโd originally thought just selling the place for her would be enough. But then he thought, โWhat if she doesnโt want to stay in Nareigh anymore and runs off again? At least this way, sheโd always have a place to come back to.โ
It was evening by the time Teresa landed at Nareigh International Airport. Dragging her suitcase, she made her way home, feeling like sheโd been gone a lifetime. Everything looked familiar, yet somehow distant.
Sheโd left in March, and now it was almost July. The airport was packed. Teresa had fibbed about her flight's arrival timeโshe didn't want to arrive in Nareigh alone. I want Miriam to pick her up. It was too much hassle. Plus, she wanted a chance to see...
She grabbed a cab and asked the driver to take the long way before finally heading to Rosary Estates. She saw skyscrapers soaring into the clouds and streets lined with shops. Maybe because of some city beautification campaigns, red ribbons and little yellow lights hung everywhere. She passed Nareigh Tower and the spinning-top building Benny's dad had helped design.
