Chapter 347
Teresa froze, looking down at her belly. Her feelings were complicated. She was already fifteen weeks pregnant and, curious about the baby's gender, had asked today. She simply wanted to be prepared. The morning sickness, her food cravings, and even her gut feeling were all the same as when she was pregnant with Michael.
It was pretty obvious what Rebecca meant. Before Teresa could respond, Jennifer interjected, โA boy? Seriously? Another boy? Give me the report. Rebecca, are you sure you didn't get it wrong?โ
Rebecca chuckled, โTwo sons! Great! You donโt have to worry about her safety, or anyone in the family favoring boys over girls.โ But as Rebecca spoke, a hint of sadness lingered in her eyes.
Jennifer said, โMy sister and I were both hoping for a girl. The first one is a boy. Girls are just easier.โ
Rebecca sighed, โJennifer, thatโs not fair. Just because we went to an all-girlsโ school doesnโt mean you can be biased against boys. It will be your sisterโs child, anyway.โ
Jennifer said, โIโm not biased against boys, Rebecca, youโve got it wrong. I just think girls are better.โ She paused. โHaving two boys is really tough. My sisterโs going to have a hard time if she still lives here by herself with two little boys. I donโt know how sheโll manage everything.โ That was what Jennifer truly wanted to say.
โHannah, are you done?โ Teresa snapped, unconcerned about embarrassing Jennifer. โIt is my child, whether itโs a boy or a girl. Iโll raise them myself. Itโs not your business. Donโt forget what you promised me. If you canโt keep your word, weโre done.โ
Jennifer murmured, โYouโฆโ
Rebecca, picking up on the tension, asked, โWhatโs going on with you two?โ
โItโs nothing,โ Jennifer sighed, rubbing her forehead. โMy little sister is reckless again. Sorry you had to bear with us, Rebecca.โ
Rebecca gave up. โTeresa, make sure you eat well and maintain a healthy diet. After you get back to Nareigh, let your sister give you a checkup. Youโll probably start showing soon, so take care of yourself and watch your step.โ She added, โAfter your two boys grow up, ask them to give their bastard dad a good beating. Seriously, what kind of man doesnโt take care of his kids?โ Rebecca always believed the kidsโ father didn't want them and refused to take responsibility.
Jennifer tried to escalate the situation. โForget about dads; these days, women can raise kids just fine on their own.โ
Teresa snorted, โThen donโt marry Donald and donโt have his kids. If you do, you should raise them yourself.โ
Jennifer said, โI never planned on having kids with him anyway.โ
Teresa said, โGood. If you two want to be childfree, thatโs your business. I just hope you can stick to it.โ
After that, Teresa turned to leave. Rebecca was about to suggest some supplements for Teresa, but Jennifer waved her off.
Jennifer said, โAfter my sister comes back to Nareigh, Iโll make sure sheโs well taken care of.โ
Rebecca said, โAlright, as long as youโre with her, things will be good. Iโll stop nagging.โ She added, โWe should go back together sometime to visit Ms. Nelson. Itโs been ages since I last went back.โ
Jennifer said, โI havenโt been back in a long time either. I bought her something around New Yearโs Eve, but I was too busy to visit her.โ
Rebecca said, โWhen we both have some free time, letโs go visit Ms. Nelson together.โ
Jennifer said, โSounds good.โ
After Jennifer said goodbye to Rebecca, Donald picked her up, driving his brand-new car. Rebecca grinned, โYouโre so lucky. You have a great job and a boyfriend who loves you. He even drives such a nice car! Out of everyone from our class, youโre probably doing the best.โ
Jennifer smiled, โStop it. See you.โ
Rebecca said, โBye. Call me.โ
Donald said, leaning over to fasten Jenniferโs seatbelt, โBuckle up.โ
Rebecca laughed, โYour man is so thoughtful. Iโm jealous.โ Rebecca kept watching them until Donaldโs car drove off. She was amazed. She wondered why Teresa ended up with a jerk while her sister found a great guy.
