Chapter 343
Jonathan slowly straightened up and opened his eyes. Instead of getting out, he leaned over Teresa, lowered the seat, and pressed her down beneath him.
โWhat are you doing?โ Teresa asked.
She struggled, but Jonathan grabbed her wrist, brushed her cheek, and bit her neck. โCome on, just one more time,โ he mumbled, โlike the time we got divorced.โ
โNo, get off me,โ Teresa said, worried he might accidentally hit her stomach.
โJust one more time, please,โ Jonathan pleaded, his voice low and slurred from the alcohol, ringing in her ears. โThat night in Harrisburg, I was drunk and you had sex with me. Just one more time, okay? Iโm really leaving this time.โ
โItโs different now,โ Teresa said. โYouโre drunk. Iโm not. We canโt keep doing this.โ
She tried to break free but failed, feeling his breath as his hand slipped easily under her thin summer shirt. He always knew how to turn her on. Just as things were about to go too far, Teresa grabbed his restless hand, her breath a little ragged.
โNext time,โ she said. โIโm not doing it with a drunk man.โ
โWhenโs next time?โ Jonathan asked.
โWhen youโre sober,โ Teresa replied offhandedly, knowing heโd forget all about this by morning.
โAlright,โ he said, finally releasing her.
As soon as he got out of the car, Teresa reversed and sped off, catching a glimpse of him opening the door in her rearview mirror.
After a momentโs thought, she texted Donald: โ[Your cousinโs drunk. Heโs at Jadeleaf Apartment.]โ She didnโt bother saying anything else; she knew Donald wouldnโt just leave Jonathan there.
But a second later, Donald called. Teresa answered, but heard Jenniferโs voice instead.
โTeresa, are you with Jonathan again?โ Jennifer asked. โWhy are you being so reckless? He already said if you went back to Nareigh, he wouldnโt bother you anymore.โ
โHannah, are you reading his messages again?โ Teresa asked. โEven though heโs your boyfriend, this is too much.โ
โHe doesnโt care if I read his messages,โ Jennifer retorted. โIf a man really loves you, he wonโt keep secrets from you.โ
โSecrets and privacy are different,โ Teresa said, knowing Hannah was a pro at this. She didnโt want to argue. โYou two are asking for it. Iโve got nothing to say about it anyway. But Iโm not like you. Iโm not going to spoil him the way he does.โ
Teresa hung up and noticed a new voice message from Miriam.
โ[Teresa, Eddie and I are thinking about staying at a hotel tonight. He says he misses me! How about this? The two of us go back and Eddie stays at your place.]โ
Young couples were always together; Teresa understood. Miriam and Eddie had only been dating a couple of months and were still in the honeymoon phase.
Teresa sent a voice message: โ[Miriam, Iโm heading home. Letโs not have Eddie come over.]โ
Miriam replied: โ[Alright. Wait for me! Iโll be back tomorrow. Gotta run!]โ
After arriving home, Teresa called Benny. He was always reliable.
โI dropped off the lucky sachet you gave me at Jonathanโs place,โ Benny said. โHeโs asleep on the couch, so Iโll move him to his bed in a bit.โ
โOkay, take care of him,โ Teresa replied.
โOh, by the way,โ Benny asked, โwhen are you two heading back to Nareigh? I really need to get going. Iโve got a ton of things waiting for me. Why donโt I take Michael with me? I can drive him back to Nareigh.โ
โWhy would I trust him to you?โ Teresa asked.
Benny laughed. โCome on, a single woman taking care of a little boy whoโs not even your own? Itโs awkward sometimes, right? โ when he needs a bath or something like that. Just let me take care of him. I promise Iโll take good care of him.โ
Teresa knew exactly what Benny was up to. But if she turned him down immediately, he would definitely become even more suspicious.
