Chapter 322
Just mentioning Teresa's name ensured the call went straight through to Jonathan. He was in a meeting. Even when Teresa needed him to pick up her friend's child from kindergarten, he'd send a driver; he never had time himself.
On the phone, Tina introduced herself as Teresa's colleague. "Mr. Lynn, you're Teresa's ex-husband. I don't know if you still care about her, but she might be in danger right now."
"What happened to her?" Jonathan immediately paused the meeting and stepped out to take the call.
Tina said, "I can tell you where Teresa is, but you have to promise me something first. My brother, Ryan, can't find a job. He didn't know Teresa was your ex-wife at first, andโ"
"Horizonlead Group will never hire him again. As for other companies, that's not my concern," Jonathan interrupted sharply, his impatience evident. He was too worried about Teresa to waste time; he rarely interrupted people like this.
But Tina persisted. "Ryan was fired by Horizonlead Group. It's on his resumeโ"
"He'll find another job. Now hurry up and tell me what's going on with Teresa, or I'll make sure no private company here hires him. If Teresa's in danger and you keep quiet, you'll face the consequences."
That finally unnerved Tina. She told Jonathan where Teresa was, mentioning that Lysander had been eyeing her and had even arranged a private room for her at the schoolโwhich seemed suspicious.
Jonathan's heart pounded. "Keep an eye on her. If anything happens, contact me immediately. If I can't get there in time, call the police. If anything happens to her, you won't get away with it."
He ended the meeting and rushed to find Teresa.
After ensuring everyone was settled, Lysander took the group to dinner. He opened several bottles of wine. If someone couldn't drink, he wouldn't push themโexcept for Teresa. He insisted she drink.
Teresa refused the alcohol. Lysander gestured to the waiter. "Pour her a glass of juice," he said.
A thick, fragrant juice was poured. Lysander raised his wine. "Let me toast you, Teresa. You wouldn't embarrass me in front of everyone, would you?"
Nearby teachers teased, "Come on, Teresa, just go along with it. The principal's had a bit too much again."
Lysander kept his glass raised, refusing to relent.
With no escape, Teresa took a large sip of juice, finishing half the glass. Lysander's eyes lingered on her, full of desire. The black dress she wore accentuated her figure.
Before dinner ended, Teresa felt woozy. She hadn't had any alcohol, but her ears rang, and her vision blurred. She told a teacher she wasn't feeling well and needed to rest.
Tina quickly approached. "I'm feeling a bit tired too. I'll go back to the hotel with Teresa," she said, helping Teresa up. The other teachers paid little attention.
"Ms. Thompson, could you help me back to my room?" Teresa mumbled, rubbing her temples, leaning heavily on Tina.
Tina reassured her, "Don't worry, Teresa. I've already contacted your ex-husband, Mr. Lynn."
Teresa's eyes were heavy, her mind foggy. She caught only the words "ex-husband" and weakly asked, "What?"
That soft voice melted even Tina's heart. She thought, That explains why Mr. Lynn still can't get her out of his head, even after the divorce.
