Chapter 302

Jonathan didn't bother explaining who was lip-syncing. His eyes kept drifting, almost unconsciously, to Teresa.

โ€œThese are all full-time teachers?โ€ Jonathan asked.

โ€œSome are full-time, some are on contract. See the second row?โ€ the man replied. โ€œThose ladies on the leftโ€”theyโ€™re all new, single, and not officially on the payroll yet.โ€

Jonathan didnโ€™t say a word, just snuck another glance at Teresa standing in the second row.

โ€œMr. Lynn, are you interested in one of the teachers?โ€ someone teased.

Jonathan was quiet for a few seconds before finally saying, โ€œJust because I like someone doesnโ€™t mean theyโ€™ll like me back.โ€

Seeing Teresa keep dodging his gaze, he stopped looking at her, not wanting to make things awkward.

The four-minute choir performance finally ended, and Teresa let out a sigh of relief, hurrying off the stage. Backstage, Ivy grinned at Teresa. โ€œYou didnโ€™t sing just now, did you? I couldnโ€™t hear your voice at all.โ€

โ€œNope. I was afraid Iโ€™d go off-key and mess everyone up. That wouldโ€™ve been a disaster,โ€ Teresa admitted. Honestly, it wasnโ€™t a real concert, and whoever sang or not didnโ€™t matter. It was just a school anniversary.

Teresa headed back to the office, with Ivy trailing behind, still gossiping. โ€œDid you see that handsome guy sitting next to the vice principal?โ€

โ€œI saw him,โ€ Teresa replied.

โ€œI noticed he kept looking at you while we were singing. Are you twoโ€ฆ you knowโ€ฆ acquainted?โ€ Ivy pressed.

โ€œNo, weโ€™re not,โ€ Teresa said softly, her voice tinged with sadness.

Behind her, Jonathan overheard her say they didnโ€™t know each other. He walked past with a cold expression. His intimidating presence made Ivy shiver. She quickly grabbed Teresaโ€™s arm and nudged her, signaling her to look. Thatโ€™s when Teresa finally noticed Jonathan behind her. She hadnโ€™t realized heโ€™d been right there. Her fingers tightened. He mustโ€™ve heard what she said.

โ€˜But so what if he did? Maybe this really is the best ending for the two of us,โ€™ Teresa thought, and forced herself not to look at him again.

After work, everyone else had already left. Teresa was packing up her things when Tina spotted her. โ€œTeresa, perfect timing! My brother just came to see meโ€”this is my brother.โ€

โ€œRyan Thompson,โ€ he introduced himself.

Tina added, โ€œLet me introduce you. This is Teresa Johnston.โ€

The moment Ryan saw Teresa, his face turned red, and he stammered, โ€œH-hi.โ€

โ€œYou two have a chat, okay? Ryan, you can give Teresa a ride home, or maybe grab dinner together. Iโ€™ll leave you to it.โ€ With that, Tina closed the door behind her.

Teresa glanced at Ryan. She felt absolutely nothing. He just wasnโ€™t her type.

Ryan, on the other hand, couldnโ€™t take his eyes off her. โ€œMy sister told me youโ€™re really pretty, Ms. Johnston, but you look even better in person than in your photo.โ€

Teresa frowned and thought, โ€˜Where did Tina even get a photo of her?โ€™ But then she thought, since they worked in the same office, it wouldnโ€™t be surprising if Tina had secretly snapped a picture. Still, the idea made her uncomfortable.

โ€œMs. Thompson means well with the introduction, but Iโ€™ve told her several times. Iโ€™m really not interested in dating. Letโ€™s just leave it at that,โ€ Teresa said.

She started to get up, but Ryan quickly said, โ€œDonโ€™t be in such a hurry. Canโ€™t we get to know each other a little?โ€

โ€œWhat exactly do you want to know?โ€ Teresa asked. She was being polite, but her eyes were distant and formal.

โ€œI havenโ€™t really introduced myself yet. Iโ€™m Ryan, 26 years old. I work as an architect. My parents both work for state-owned companies and are about to retire. Itโ€™s just me and my sister, no other siblings.โ€

โ€œAnd you, Ms. Johnston?โ€ Ryan was clearly pleased with her. Guys always look at appearance first, and Teresa was flawless.

Teresa didnโ€™t want to waste time. โ€œYouโ€™ve got great qualifications, but Iโ€™m really not the right person for you. You should look for someone else.โ€

As she stood up, Ryan jumped up too. โ€œAre you heading home? Let me drive you.โ€

He was completely smitten. Heโ€™d been on other blind dates before, but heโ€™d never met anyone this beautiful. If he actually married Teresa, heโ€™d be hitting the jackpot. At least their kids would have good genes.
