Chapter 235

Benny noticed Jonathan heading toward Nareigh International Airport and felt uneasy. He immediately returned to sort out Jonathanโ€™s driverโ€™s license. He figured Jonathan was about to run another red light. The points deducted from his last offense hadn't even been restored, and even two licenses wouldn't be enough to cover his violations.

At the Fortune Boulevard intersection, Irene and Heidi were leaving a nearby store when they saw a black Maybach speed through a red light without hesitation. Heidi hesitated for a moment. "Wasn't that Jonathan's car just now?" she asked Irene.

Irene pressed her lips together, thinking, Of course, it was. Why did Jonathan run a red light? She pulled out her phone to call Jonathan, but an automated message informed her that the number was temporarily unavailable. Irene frowned deeply, wondering, Where is Jonathan rushing off to? Is he going after Teresa again?

โ€œIโ€™ve already made things clear with Jonathan. I have nothing to do with him anymore. Please donโ€™t call me again.โ€ These were Teresaโ€™s exact words. Irene furrowed her brows, trying to reach Teresa, but her phone was turned off.

The sprawling Nareigh International Airport teemed with travelers. The end of the month coinciding with Memorial Dayโ€”a time when many returned home to visit familyโ€”made the terminals a chaotic rush of people hurrying to catch their flights.

Jonathanโ€™s eyes anxiously scanned the crowd, searching for any sign of Teresa. His worry was evident as he moved through the bustling airport. He kept bumping into strangers, his eyes drawn to tall, thin figures in the distance. Each time, hope would rise, and he'd reach out, only to be let down when they turned around. "Sorry, I thought you were someone else," he'd mutter.

But none of them were Teresa. He pictured her delicate features: large, expressive eyes, a high nose bridge, and an elegance that was impossible to miss. Yet, every figure that bore even a slight resemblance to her turned out to be a stranger.

He didnโ€™t even notice when the bank card in his pocket, holding over six million dollars, slipped out. It wasnโ€™t until a staff member called out to him that he snapped out of his daze. Frowning, he bent down to pick it up.

As he straightened and met the staff memberโ€™s gaze, a wave of clarity hit him. He had been acting foolishly. Finally, he realized he could ask for help.

โ€œExcuse me, could you check for me? What time did a passenger named Teresa Johnstonโ€™s flight to Fernlandia depart?โ€ he asked, his voice tight with urgency.

The receptionist looked up, her eyes widening slightly as she recognized the strikingly handsome man before her. A knowing look crossed her face. โ€œYouโ€™re Mr. Jonathan Lynn, arenโ€™t you?โ€ she asked.

โ€œYes, thatโ€™s me,โ€ Jonathan replied with a slight nod, his expression calm but tense.

โ€œMs. Johnstonโ€™s flight departed twenty minutes ago. She left this card for you before she boarded,โ€ the receptionist said. โ€œThere might be a tall, handsome man asking about my flight. If he does, please hand him this card. Thank you,โ€ Teresa had said to the receptionist before boarding the plane.

Jonathan was stunned.

He took the card in silence, his heart sinking as disappointment flickered in his eyes. She was gone. He was just a moment too late. She knew heโ€™d come looking for her, yet she deliberately went to Benny to stall him.

What a heartless woman. He could never bring himself to be so ruthless. He worried about her, wondering if sheโ€™d have a place to stay. She spent money like water. She might end up like before, unable to even afford gas.

At least in Nareigh, she had her house in Rosary Estates. But now that she had left, Jonathan didnโ€™t know how she could make a living.

Jonathan sat down heavily, the card trembling slightly in his hand. Slowly, he opened it, and Teresaโ€™s familiar, graceful handwriting came into view.

โ€œMaybe youโ€™re just clinging to the past. You do. Successfully unlocked! I hope you find happiness. From Teresa, your ex-wife.โ€

Jonathan clenched the card tightly, his knuckles turning white from the pressure.
