Chapter 201
Teresa hesitated, frustration bubbling over. โWhat? When did we even sleep together? It was just a few days ago, during the companyโs press conference. How could I be pregnant already? My period hasnโt even started yet.โ
Jonathan frowned slightly. โLetโs go to the hospital and get it checked.โ
โNo way,โ Teresa snapped, yanking her hand away from his grasp. Her frustration was evident. โI already told you Iโm not pregnant. What more do you want? I donโt even like traditional medicine, but I came here because of you. What else do you expect?โ
Jonathan narrowed his eyes, staring at her for a few seconds. โWeโll talk about this when we get back to Nareigh.โ He wondered, If sheโs pregnant, I wonโt let anything happen to this baby. Itโs my child, whom I have waited so long for.
Meanwhile, back in Nareigh, Teresa wasnโt the only one feeling unsettled. Jenniferโs thoughts were equally chaotic. Yesterday was Donaldโs birthday. Jennifer, having promised Cheryl to help celebrate, bought a chocolate cake after work. Cheryl had mentioned it was Donaldโs favorite flavor. Cheryl had also arranged for a bouquet of flowers, asking Jennifer to deliver them to Donald. Jennifer complied without hesitation.
Holding the bouquet and carrying the cake, Jennifer appeared before Donald, who had been planning to head home for dinner. The moment she saw him, she changed her plans.
โLet me treat you to dinner,โ Jennifer offered, recalling Cherylโs words about Donald feeling insecure because of her.
โSure,โ Donald agreed, his mood visibly lifted. They went to a fine-dining restaurant. Jennifer, unfamiliar with such upscale places, felt a bit out of place. Donald, however, was attentive throughout, treating her with gentlemanly care and even pouring her a glass of red wine.
โThanks for being here, Jennifer. This birthday wouldnโt have been the same without you,โ Donald said, raising his glass.
They clinked glasses, and Jennifer took a small sip of wine. The aroma of the red wine seemed to linger, warming her cheeks and quickening her heartbeat.
By the time they left the restaurant, Jennifer was slightly tipsy. As they descended the steps, she stumbled lightly, and Donald quickly steadied her by the arm, his concern evident. โAre you okay?โ he asked.
Their eyes met, and a spark seemed to pass between them, leaving her breathless. Jennifer licked her dry lips and shook her head, gently pushing his hand away.
โHappy birthday,โ she said softly. With those words, she turned to leave in a hurry.
But before she could take another step, Donald grabbed her arm, pulling her into his embrace. In the dimly lit parking lot, he couldnโt hold back any longer and leaned down to kiss her.
It was Jenniferโs first kiss. Her eyes widened in shock as she stared at the face so close to hers. Donald tasted the sweet hint of red wine on her lips and deepened the kiss. Jennifer, snapping back to her senses, pushed him away with all her strength and fled the scene in a panic.
That kiss had thrown her already restless heart into complete disarray. Even this morning, Jennifer still didnโt know how she would face Donald in the future.
Jennifer was in a complete panic when Cheryl reached out, sending a photo. After seeing Benny in the picture, Jennifer quickly typed a reply: โBennyโs already at the Lynn residence? Jonathan wouldnโt hand over the hair, so Benny has to go there himself? Typical,โ Jennifer wondered.
At the Lynn residence, Irene and Cheryl were both at home. Benny greeted Irene as he walked in. Irene introduced them with a smile. โBenny, this is Cheryl, Jonathanโs cousin.โ
Bennyโs gaze briefly landed on Cheryl, who walked over and said, โOh, youโre Donaldโs sister, right? Jonathan mentioned you before. First time meeting you.โ
Cherylโs cheeks turned red as she replied shyly, โYouโre really handsome, Benny.โ
Benny chuckled, his tone light and playful. But remembering why he was there, he quickly turned to Irene and said, โJonathan asked me to grab something from his room. He said he left a file here.โ
