Chapter 197

Jonathan carried Michael ahead, then glanced back with a teasing grin. โ€œSo, when are you going to give me a daughter?โ€

โ€œNo way. Go find someone else for that,โ€ Teresa shot back, clearly annoyed. Jonathan frowned but remained silent.

After settling Michael down, Jonathan made a quick call. Once he hung up, he turned to Teresa. โ€œWeโ€™re leaving tonight. Edwardโ€™s on his way. Heโ€™s free this weekend, so heโ€™ll stay here for a couple of days to watch Mike.โ€

โ€œAbsolutely not. Edward thinks babysitting means making the kid dance and filming TikTok videos,โ€ Teresa said, rolling her eyes.

โ€œLet him have his fun. Anyway, Donaldโ€™s busy with his birthday today. Otherwise, I wouldโ€™ve asked him,โ€ Jonathan replied. โ€˜Donaldโ€™s birthday?โ€™ Teresa blinked in surprise and wondered, โ€˜No wonder Jennifer rushed out with her luggage this morning. Is she planning to stay at the hospital now? Or maybe throwing Donald a birthday party? Are things moving that fast between them?โ€™

Teresa couldnโ€™t help but wonder, โ€œIf Jennifer and Donald get together, does that mean I wonโ€™t have to leave?โ€

Soon, Edward came bounding in, practically bouncing on his feet. After Jonathan gave him a few instructions, Edward grinned. โ€œSo, can I explore the place freely?โ€

โ€œNo,โ€ Jonathan cut him off coldly. โ€œYouโ€™re only allowed in your room and Mikeโ€™s room. Got it?โ€

โ€œWhatโ€™s the name of that kid again? Mike?โ€ Edward instinctively glanced at Teresa, who stood calmly behind Jonathan.

โ€œMike Johnson, M-I-K-E,โ€ said Jonathan.

โ€œOh, I got it.โ€ Edward scratched his nose and decided not to ask further.

Jonathan headed to the garage to get the car, while Teresa hesitated, trying to back out. She really didnโ€™t want to see a traditional medicine doctor. Even if she got prescribed herbal remedies, she wouldnโ€™t take them. But Jonathan was firm. He had time this weekend, and he might not be free next week. Noticing how much weight she had lost, and since she was staying at his place, he figured it was the perfect time to help her recover.

Jonathan drove the car out and stopped it in front of her, opening the passenger door. โ€œGet in.โ€

โ€œCanโ€™t we just go next week? Itโ€™s not that urgent, is it?โ€ she said.

โ€œIโ€™ll be busy next week. Your familyโ€™s issues have already worn me out. Jennifer sent me one text, and I flew back from overseas to find you, then your mom was hospitalized, and I was running around pulling strings,โ€ Jonathan rubbed his temples, a trace of exhaustion flickering in his eyes. โ€œJust get in the car.โ€

Teresa knew he meant well, but she hadnโ€™t taken any contraceptive pills. โ€˜Itโ€™s been too long anyway. I stopped taking them ages ago, just hoping I wouldnโ€™t get pregnant,โ€™ she wondered.

Once Teresa got in the car, her eyes landed on the BMW logo and the familiar interior. Memories came flooding back. โ€œWhy are you driving this car?โ€

It was the same black BMW 530 he had driven when they got married. She hadnโ€™t seen this car in ages. Jonathan explained, โ€œThe roads in Chicoham have odd-even plate restrictions, but this car isnโ€™t affected because it doesnโ€™t have a Nareigh license plate.โ€

Teresa hadnโ€™t been in this car for a long time. As she fastened her seatbelt, she asked, โ€œJust the two of us?โ€

โ€œWho else were you expecting? A conversation partner?โ€ he teased.

โ€œDidnโ€™t you say Benny recommended the doctor? Isnโ€™t he coming?โ€ she asked.

โ€œHeโ€™s swamped.โ€ Jonathan wasnโ€™t sure what Benny was so busy with, but Benny had called him earlier today, asking if heโ€™d be going back to the Lynn residence this weekend. Jonathan had replied that he wouldnโ€™t, as he was taking Teresa to see the doctor. Benny had cryptically remarked, โ€œItโ€™s just as well youโ€™re not coming back.โ€ He didnโ€™t elaborate further.

The car had already merged onto the main road. This car carried so many memories. Teresaโ€™s mind was flooded with the past, especially when she turned on the music player and heard the familiar melody.

Back then, it was a breezy day. He had driven her to the courthouse to get their marriage license. That song had been playing. He had kissed the back of her hand and said to her, โ€œMrs. Lynn, youโ€™ve got me for life now.โ€
