Chapter 184
That was proof that Evelyn still loved her. "There's not a decent guy out there. You deserved getting fooled," someone said. Evelyn hung her head silently, a hint of disappointment flashing in her eyes.
Someone then told Evelyn, โJust rest in the hospital. The doctor said you need to be monitored. Iโll go pick up Isabel and take care of her for a few days. After youโre discharged and feeling better, both of you can stay at my place.โ
Another retorted sharply, โHow can Rosary Estates accommodate so many people?โ
Teresa said, โWith three bedrooms, we can manage.โ โWe canโt just do nothing. You wouldnโt want Mom to end up on the streets,โ she added.
Jennifer didn't want to support Evelyn financially, but she was in a different situation from Teresa. Evelyn had never been stingy with Teresa after making money. Even though sheโd ignored Teresa after remarrying, the latter couldn't just abandon her now that she was down on her luck. It just wasnโt reasonable.
โWhatever,โ Jennifer said, then left, frustrated.
Teresa asked Evelyn, โWhereโs that jerk now? We canโt just let him get away with this. Letโs take legal action! What a son of aโฆโ
โI donโt know. Where would I even start looking? He blocked my number long ago and ran away with his mistress, taking all my money and property. It was then that I realized he was after my money the moment he married me. He only pretended to be deeply in love to deceive me. He never cared for Isabel either,โ Evelyn sighed.
โIf only you had seen it coming sooner. You wouldnโt have had another child. Now, look at you, left with nothing and needing to take care of a kid,โ Teresa said.
Evelynโs situation was quite similar to Teresaโs back then. Teresa only realized how tiring it was to take care of a young child after she became a mother.
Wanting to know what Hannah had endured, Evelyn looked up and asked, โWhat did Hannah go through over the years? Why is โJennifer Nelsonโ written on her name tag?โ
Teresa sat down and told Evelyn about how her sister had been rescued by a female teacher named Genevieve Nelson, who then adopted her. Genevieve, a small-town teacher, built a school specifically to take in abandoned girls, and Jennifer was raised by her since childhood. Jennifer was hardworking, working part-time while attending university, and with persistence, she achieved what she had set out to do.
โSo, thatโs what happened. No wonder we couldnโt find your sister all these years. We really owe a big thanks to that teacher; sheโs truly a good person,โ Evelyn commented.
โYes. That teacher was selfless. Even when Jennifer sent money back, she wouldnโt accept it. If Jennifer hadnโt met her, she might have died from cold or hunger at the bottom of a cliff a long time ago,โ Teresa said.
Evelyn thought about the hardships Hannah had faced as a child and pressed a tissue to her eyes. โYour sister went through a lot. If she hadnโt gone missing, I could have helped her financially.โ
โIโm doing my best now to support my sister materially. However, sheโs proud and doesnโt want me to waste money on things. Sheโs gotten used to being frugal over the years,โ Teresa sighed.
โItโs my fault. I owe your sister an apology,โ Evelyn said, feeling guilty as she recalled Jenniferโs advice.
โIโll spend the rest of my life alone. I want to take you, your sister, and Isabel away from Nareigh. Iโll try my best to make it up to you all,โ Evelyn proposed.
Teresa questioned, โIf we leave Nareigh, where do we go?โ
โYour sister said she has friends in Shaville who can help her with transferring hospitals. Letโs just go with her plan. Wherever she wants to go, weโll all follow her,โ Evelyn explained.
โWhere are we going to live? There are so many of us. With the housing prices in Shaville so high, I donโt have enough savings right now. Jennifer only mentioned she could transfer to a different hospital, but she doesnโt have any accommodation there,โ Teresa shot back.
Evelyn asked Teresa about her savings. When Teresa held up one finger, Evelyn gasped.
โOne million dollars,โ Teresa said weakly.
โWhat? Are you trying to give me a heart attack? Youโve been running a big company for almost a year now. How did we make so little money?โ Evelyn questioned.
Knowing that Evelyn would say that, Teresa rebuked, โRoc Group was encountering a loss when I took it over. Itโs not even a year yet; how could I make money so quickly? I have to manage expenses and pay the staff. Iโve been trying really hard to save up.โ
โYouโve been trying hard to save up? I donโt believe you. You spend money more recklessly than I do, puffing yourself up at your own cost,โ Evelyn spat out.
Teresa was displeased. โWhatever you say. Anyway, this is all the cash I have on hand, and you donโt have any money left either. How are we supposed to get to Shaville? Are we relying on my sisterโs small salary to support all five of us? Are we supposed to live on air?โ
Evelyn furrowed her brows, thinking, โItโs four people, not five. She must be mistaken.โ
โLetโs go somewhere else, or perhaps even abroad! Anywhere is fine! Talk it over with your sister and see what she thinks. You could transfer or sell Roc Group,โ Evelyn continued.
