Teresa finally spoke up, her eyes brimming with tears. “I… I guess I missed you a little. That’s why I couldn’t help but hug you.”

Jonathan was shocked.

“I haven’t been with anyone else either. After you left, it was just me and the kids. After work, I’d go pick them up and take care of everything myself. I’m really happy you’re back. I mean it. Welcome home.”

Jonathan walked over to Teresa, pulled her up from her chair, and lowered his head to kiss her on the lips. The sweetness of red wine lingered between their kisses.

Teresa closed her eyes. ‘Is he drunk? Why is he kissing me?’ His kiss was so passionate that she could hardly take it. But right now, her mind was blank–she couldn’t think straight. Her hand rested on his waist.

Jonathan lifted Teresa onto the bed and continued to kiss her passionately. The two of them lost control and swept up in the moment, until Teresa suddenly felt Jonathan unclasping her bra. She pressed his hand down. “You’re drunk.”

“I’m not drunk,” Jonathan replied, his voice husky as he stared at her body.

Teresa blushed, quickly covering herself with her arms. “What are you staring at?”

Jonathan swallowed, his voice rough again. “I want to kiss every inch of you, but I can’t take things further with you yet.”

Even if they were going to sleep together, he wanted to check with a doctor first–he didn’t want to risk hurting her.

Somehow, he managed to hold himself back. Even though it was hard, in the end, he just went to the bathroom and took a cold shower.

By the time morning arrived, sunlight poured in through the window. Today was the 16th of January. Jonathan was already up and busy in the kitchen when Teresa woke up.

As soon as she heard the doorbell, she went to open the door and found Lucas outside. Lucas walked in as he told her, “Mom’s car accident had been taken care of, and she’s fine now.”

“Really? That’s good to hear,” Teresa said. “Jonathan’s here too. He stayed with the boys last night. Why don’t you say hi to him?”

Lucas walked into the kitchen and, sure enough, saw Jonathan making porridge. He greeted him. “Hey, bro. It’s been a while.”

“Been a while,” Jonathan replied, turning down the heat on the stove and smiling at Lucas.

“I thought you weren’t here. Teresa said you stayed over last night,” Lucas said with a grin. Teresa offered, “Why don’t you stay for breakfast?”

“Nah, I gotta head out soon. Got something to do with a friend,” Lucas replied as he pointed at the corner of Teresa’s mouth. “Teresa, what’s up with your lips? Why are they so swollen?”

Teresa cleared her throat awkwardly. “Oh, it’s nothing. I bit them accidentally.”

No way she could admit that last night, she just couldn’t bear to see Jonathan go take a cold shower, so she did something about it. Of course, in the middle of the night, he left her room and went to stay with the boys.

“By the way, Lucas,” Teresa changed the subject, “did Yalena threaten you or something?” Things were so rushed yesterday, and Teresa never got the chance to ask him about it.

Lucas shook his head. “Don’t worry about me. I can handle myself. I’m not going to drag you into my mess.”

“Come on, we’re family. There’s no such thing as trouble between us. Just promise me you’ll keep your distance from her, okay? If anything happens, you have to tell me.”
