Chapter 23
Melissa was curious. “Kelly, what’s it like being pregnant? Does it feel magical?”
Kelly unconsciously placed her hand on her belly. It was magical. She never imagined she would become a mother so soon. Even before deciding to marry Leon, she had considered keeping the baby. She knew that at the time it would have been impossible under her circumstances. She was isolated, and she still had her studies to complete.
That night, when she decided to get married, she lay in her bed unable to sleep. Her thoughts had turned to her belly. The decision she made didn’t just save her, it saved the baby too. Maybe the baby also wanted to enter this world.
She whispered, “It feels like there’s someone connected to me by blood.”
Although Melissa couldn’t quite understand the feeling just yet, judging by Kelly’s expression, it had to be something pretty great.
Just as she was about to say something, her eyes narrowed, and she looked toward someone approaching. With a hint of annoyance, she muttered, “It’s Jude and Celeste.”
Kelly looked up. Jude and Celeste were walking toward them. Jude was handsome with sharp features, and Celeste was in a white dress, looking like a butterfly fluttering through… To be fair, they did make a good couple. Those two have been inseparable ever since they started dating. Melissa whispered in Kelly’s ear, clearly annoyed.
“They’re a couple, so it’s normal for them to stick together,” Kelly replied calmly.
Seeing Jude didn’t stir anything inside her anymore. Who he dated had nothing to do with her.
As they got closer, Celeste’s voice suddenly rang out. “Hey, Kelly.”
Kelly froze in her tracks and glanced at her. Holding Jude’s hand, Celeste smiled sweetly. “You should know that Jude and I are together now, right?”
What seemed like soft words were actually full of boasting and provocation. Even though Celeste believed she was prettier than Kelly, Kelly was better academically. Jude had once wavered between them, but it was Celeste who had pursued him. She was the one who kissed him first, and that was when they confirmed their relationship. However, Kelly had always been a thorn in her side, especially recently when Jude had been discussing study matters with her. He had casually asked, “How are you so dumb? Kelly doesn’t need me to teach her.”
Even though Jude had apologized sincerely afterward, the words still stung. So today, when she saw Kelly, she couldn’t resist provoking Kelly to show that Jude had chosen her.
However, Kelly remained unexpectedly calm. She simply replied, “I know. I wish you both the best.”
Celeste realized her provocation was unsuccessful. Jude, who stood at the side, couldn’t help but glance at Kelly.
Celeste wasn’t giving up. “By the way, next week is our 50-day anniversary of being together, and I wanted to invite a few friends to celebrate. Are you free on that…”
Melissa, who overheard this, nearly rolled her eyes. A 50-day anniversary? How ridiculous.
Unable to stay quiet, Melissa spoke up. “Kelly isn’t free. Let’s see if you can last until your 50th wedding anniversary, and then we’ll go.”
