Chapter 15

Kelly felt that Melissa was even more useless than she was. At least she could speak properly in front of Leon; that was something Kelly had completely forgotten, how she had once stumbled over her words in his presence, too.

She softly introduced Melissa to Leon. “This is my roommate, Melissa. I told her about our marriage.”

“Hello,” Leon greeted Melissa without any signs of dismissiveness, even though she was just a student. “I’m Leon. Thank you for helping Kelly with her things.” Melissa replied tersely, “It’s nothing.”

Leon turned to Kelly and asked casually, “Shall we go?”

They stood close, and Kelly could feel his breath. His touch was gentle, and the way he spoke made them really seem like a married couple. She hesitated before meeting his gaze and giving a small nod. “Okay,”

Melissa watched as they said their goodbyes to her and then noticed Leon opening the passenger door for Kelly. He did everything with such effortless grace, looking so composed and attractive.

How did such an amazing man end up with Kelly?

Melissa couldn’t help but wonder if she could find someone like him by spending time at bars.

In the car, Kelly sat rigidly, staring straight ahead. Even though she was excited about the new home, the idea of spending each day alone with Leon made her feel uneasy.

“Dad, you have lunch?” Leon asked while driving.

Kelly quickly nodded. “Yes, I’ve eaten.”

“I made some corn juice today. It’s in the cup holder. You should try it.”

She opened the cup holder and found a small thermos. Leon probably knew that she had already eaten breakfast, so he’d prepared something light for her. “Thank you.”

Kelly quietly unscrewed the lid, and the sweet smell of corn wafted up. She took a sip. It was pleasantly sweet. She quietly finished her sip.

While waiting for a red light, Leon glanced at her out of the corner of his eye. He watched as she tilted her head back to drink the juice, revealing her slender neck. Her ears were fair and clean, and the stray hairs on her head gently curled. Leon’s gaze lingered. After she finished the corn juice, he noticed a little left on the corner of her lips. He couldn’t help but smile.

Kelly felt his gaze and looked over at him.

“What’s wrong?” she asked, sensing something different in his stare.

Leon’s voice was soft and warm as he glanced at the corn juice near her lips. “Did you enjoy it?”

Kelly nodded honestly. “It was good.”

Just then, the light turned green, and Leon didn’t say anything but focused on driving.

Kelly, feeling a bit confused, absentmindedly rubbed her nose.

Since Leon’s house was only about ten minutes from the university, it made commuting easier. After parking, Kelly unbuckled her seatbelt, eager to get out of the car.

“Wait,” Leon called after her.

Kelly turned around to see Leon walking toward her. Her heart skipped a beat.

What was he going to do? Was he about to kiss her? That seemed odd to do in broad daylight. She wasn’t ready for that. Was he planning to kiss her just downstairs? And what would happen when they got inside? Would they go straight to the bedroom?
