Chapter 152
How could she be tired when delicious food awaited? Liam took Emma to a renowned Anaurn restaurant, where many dishes were crafted by a world-famous Michelin chef. He received a warm welcome, and they settled into the most romantic table by the window, overlooking the bustling city streets.
Emma gazed at the night scene from her white-tablecloth-covered seat, exclaiming, "It's so beautiful here!"
"We'll come often, if you like it," Liam replied.
"Yes, yes!" Emma agreed.
The appetizer, a refreshing avocado, salmon, and mint dish, was cold and sweet. One bite stimulated Emma's appetite. "It's really delicious!" she exclaimed, recognizing the familiar taste. She mused that the salad must have been prepared by the celebrated chef, as renowned as she was.
Just then, her phone rang. It was Josiah. He'd likely found information about Justine's death. Emma looked at Liam with an apologetic and guilty expression. "I'm sorry, honey, I have an important call. May I answer it?"
Liam, possessive of Emma's attention during their meals, softened at her cute expression. "Alright," he said.
"Thank you, honey!" she replied, quickly kissing his cheek before rushing to the restroom.
"Hello?"
Josiah had indeed found something. "Boss, we found clues! Bunny had an accident while studying at Charon Military School. The organization erased all relevant information, making it difficult to find anything." Bunny was Justine's code name. Each member had a unique designation; Dummy, as she was known, was the fiercest Crimsontail.
"Is her death related to Charon Military School? Did their training cause a heart attack during the competition? Or did they give her something to trigger her heart disease just to win?" Emma's anger fueled her questions.
"Boss, relax. Charon Military School is reputable. Let's investigate thoroughly. Someone else could be involved," Josiah suggested. "I've found the hospital where Bunny was taken. I'll send you the address. If you have time, check the autopsy report."
"Okay," Emma replied, calming down. She hung up, only to hear a click outside the restroom.
"Who!" Emma cautiously opened the door to find Riley, looking calm. "Don't worry, I didn't hear much. I'm only interested in winning." Riley went to wash her hands.
Emma narrowed her eyes. Unsure how much Riley had overheard, she knew caution was necessary.
Returning to her seat, the second course had arrived. Composing herself, she hugged Liam from behind, whispering, "I'm back."
"Come and try it. It's your favorite foie gras with blueberries," Liam said.
"Okay."
It was a warm and romantic dinner. That night, Emma accessed Josiah's information on the Icovine Estate computer. Justine's autopsy report was at a private hospital in Troln City, about forty minutes from the estate. "I'm going out tomorrow," she told Liam.
He picked her up, placing her on the table. "For how long?" he asked.
"It won't be long," Emma replied, nuzzling him. "I know I'm not often home and should spend more time with you. I'm sorry. I'll cook for you when I return and never go out again, okay?"
Liam hugged her. "Okay. If you need help, let me know."
"Okay," she said, kissing him. "I want a kiss."
He chuckled, pulling her close. Emma wrapped her arms around his neck as he carried her to bed.
The next day, Emma went alone to Saint Maria Hospital. With help from the director who'd operated on Lane's grandfather, she easily obtained Justine's autopsy report. Everything was detailed, with clear photographs.
Emma flipped through the pages, her hands trembling. 'Dummy…' she repeated silently. Upon seeing the photos, she slammed the report shut. "Who was… by her side when she was sent here?"
The staff shook their heads. "It's been so long. We can't remember."
"Who else has seen this report besides me?"
"No one else."
Emma clenched her teeth. The report stated death by sudden heart attack, but Dummy had no history of heart problems! There were no signs of drug abuse! What was wrong?
Reaching a stalemate, Emma left the archive room, walking down the corridor in a daze. The sound of heels approached; someone blocked her path. "Hey, I was wondering who it was. Is your boyfriend not with you today, or did he dump you?"
It was the woman who had harassed Liam at another hospital.
Emma glared. "Get lost!"
The woman pushed her. "Stop putting on airs."
Emma, already gloomy, clenched her fists. As she raised her hand, Bob stepped forward, pushing the woman away. "Get away from her!"
The woman sneered, "You seem popular with men. Last time, you had a sugar daddy, now you got a puppy."
Emma, already upset, would have attacked if not for Bob's intervention. The woman left.
Bob turned to Emma, noticing her clenched fist. "Are you okay?"
