Listen to this chapter:

Just as the man reached the doorway, Lucas ushered Wyatt inside. The man looked up, recognizing a familiar faceโ€”a face instantly recognizable in Seacrity. He froze, unable to move, as Lucas led Wyatt to Yvette.

Wyatt, impeccably dressed in a suit, his hair neatly combed, appeared well-prepared. The others in the living room recognized him, exclaiming, "Mr. Langford?"

Wyatt, already aware of the Chambers family's recent influx of visitors and their intentions, thought, Helping those in need is rare; managing relationships is far more difficult.

Seeing he'd been recognized, Wyatt politely nodded to everyone before turning his gaze to Yvette, seated on the sofa. His eyes held a depth of meaning. He knew of Betrico's newsโ€”Jase's acknowledgment of Yvette as his daughter-in-law, and Clifford and his wife's enthusiastic support. Yvette's position as Major General Mrs. Chavez was now secure, her recent Ybaulla victory solidifying her status as a Clusian idol.

Ignoring the others, Wyatt quietly addressed Yvette. "Grand-aunt, long time no see."

This greeting shocked everyone. The top leader of Seacrity, so polite, even respectful to Yvetteโ€”unbelievable!

The man at the doorway stiffly watched, filled with regret. Had he known the mayor would be so deferential to Yvette, he would never have spoken as he did. His regret, however, was now futile. He reluctantly left the Chambers residence.

Only Lucas glanced at the departing man. What's the use of regretting now?

Yvette looked up, unsurprised by Wyatt's arrival. Her expression remained indifferent; her voice, cold. "Sit."

A collective eye twitch rippled through the room. Is this single word showing too much disregard for the top leader?

Zachary addressed Wyatt, "Mr. Langford, you've been so busy. How did you find time to visit personally? Please, let us know if you need anything."

Wyatt sat, maintaining his courtesy toward Zacharyโ€”Jeremiah's future father-in-law and Jase Chavez's relative. Friendliness here was advantageous.

Wyatt chuckled, dropping the mayoral formalities. "Mr. Chambers, you're too kind. I knew Grand-aunt was returning, so I came to visit. Nothing important; just a friendly call. Please excuse my uninvited visit."

Zachary knew Wyatt's visit concerned Yvette. Since assuming leadership in Seacrity, Zachary had rarely cultivated personal relationships. This visit, regardless of motive, projected goodwill toward the Chambers familyโ€”a beneficial outcome. Zachary asked Lucas to serve coffee, largely ignoring the other guests. "These people can stand if they wish."

Wyatt surveyed the room. "I'm in a hurry. I didn't realize Mr. Chambers had so many guests. Perhaps I should visit another time?"

Zachary laughed, waving his hand. "Mr. Langford, not at all. Lately, for some reason, visitors keep arriving. People might think we're hiding something valuable."

This sarcastic remark left the remaining guests ashamed and flushed. They quickly made excuses to depart.

"Mr. Chambers, I just remembered something at home. I'll leave now."

"Oh, look at the time. I have family waiting."

Zachary didn't try to stop them. These people would likely avoid the Chambers family in the future. He instructed Lucas, "Send them off, Lucas."

The once lively room emptied, leaving only Layla, who'd arrived dressed to impress. She saw Wyatt's eyes light up, thinking, Yvette must know many high-ranking officials. An introduction would ensure my marriage into an elite family. This was her true intention.

Layla feigned a dilemma, adjusting her hair and seating herself on the sofa. "Mr. Chambers, I apologize. My driver's car broke down. May I stay a while?"

Zachary, favorably impressed by her measured ambition, nodded. "Of course. Leave once your car arrives."

Layla, inwardly pleased, maintained a composed exterior.

Yvette sipped her coffee, glancing at Layla with a playful, mischievous smile.

Layla, noticing Yvette's gaze, smiled awkwardly.

Wyatt and Zachary conversed, seasoned players exchanging pleasantries. Yvette, however, remained engrossed in her phone, lounging lazily on the sofa.

Layla, in contrast, sat upright, making occasional polite comments. Her eyes, however, kept drifting toward Wyatt.

Wyatt, perceptive, noticed Layla's scrutiny. He thought, At my age, she could be my daughter. What is she trying to achieve with these obvious advances? Being a family relative, Wyatt politely avoided her.

Zachary, too, noticed, sighing. Another one seeking shortcuts, now targeting Mr. Langford. She's not very discerning.

Layla believed her intentions were concealed, yet the three across from her had seen through her charade.

Layla glanced at her outfit, impeccably styled. My posture, my behaviorโ€”all professionally trained. I'm a true socialite. Yet Yvette can't even sit properly before Mr. Langford. She's incredibly rude and unpresentable. Her competition win doesn't change her inherent inferiority to a natural socialite like me.

Seeing the malice flash in Layla's eyes and settle on Yvette, Zachary intervened. "Layla, Mr. Langford and I have matters to discuss. Since your driver is delayed, I'll send you with the Chambers family driver."

Layla, surprised and slightly embarrassed, could only nod. "Thank you." She stood, glancing at Yvette, her eyes darkening. "Yvette, could you give me a ride?"
